Most children who join the Academy do so for all the reasons given on the Home page - and there are many.  However, some students come to realise over time that they want to spend the rest of their lives dancing.  Some choose a career where they can use their dancing skills, e.g. teaching, while others choose a full time dancing career.  Here are a few of those career stories.

CHANTELLE CAREY

Chantelle's training began at the Melody Academy of Dance.  She completed her training at Leicester College of Performing Arts and her career then took off and went from strength to strength.

She is presently performing in the Cambridge Theatre, West End, London, in the role of Hunyak in "CHICAGO" and is swing for Mamma Morton.  She has also covered and played the roles of Annie, Velma Kelly and MammaMorton.

Chantelle has been understudy in "THE STRIPPER" for the characters of Dolores Keller, Sherry Mendes, and Annabelle Jackson.

She has been on the UK and International tour with "CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG" and has performed in "JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOUR DREAM COAT" on a UK tour and in the New London Theatre as an Apache dancer and played the role of Mrs Potifar.

Chantelle has performed in Summer Follies, Westcliffe Theatre, and at the Thursford Christmas Spectacular.

As well as performing, Chantelle owns ASAP Promotions where she provides a choreography service and staff for various events across the UK.

On the corporate side, Chantelle has travelled to Singapore, Japan, Marrakesh, South America, and has choreographed FRANCE 2009, 2010, and 2011 at Earls Court, London.

Chantelle would like to thank her mum, Melody, for all her love and support.

NICOLA GALLAGHER

Nicola commenced her dance training at 6 years of age with the Melody Academy of Dance.  Through the school, she later completed her training at Leicester College of Performing Arts.

After graduating, Nicola began her working career in the hotel entertainment industry and worked throughout Europe.  She later moved to Mexico where she was cast in a Latin touring company, "Sangre Latina".  Still in Mexico, she now works in 5-Star hotels in Latin America, Barcelo Maya, where she performs six nights a week. She now speaks fluent Spanish!

Nicola has also performed in a music video for Kelly Rowland and Nelly.

Nicola puts her successful career down to the constant support, love, and encouragement she received, and continues to receive, from Melody.

DAVID CHURCH

David commenced his training with the Melody Academy of Dance. Prior to this he was involved with the Sligo Musical Society, the Star Factory, and Coolera Dramatic Society

In 2009, through the Academy, he went on to study in the Leicester College of Performing Arts. He is now in his 3rd Year and will be graduating in July 2012.

His agencies include International Casting Agency UK (Acting), Aardvark Castings (Acting), and Models Manchester (Modelling). He is also on the books for Nickelodeon Cruises which is part of Norwegian Cruse Line and he is waiting for a call to start a contract on the ship.

David would like to thank Melody and Mavis for all the support as this dream would not have been possible without their help.

KILLIAN OATES

Killian began dancing at the 'slightly older' age of 15, but has never let his age hold him back. Before starting his training at the Melody Academy of Dance, he was actively involved in local community groups - Sligo Drama Circle, Coolera Dramatic Society, Sligo Musical Society and The Star Factory.

Killian performed in many ensemble and lead roles in various plays and musicals in Sligo. He has appeared in four pantomimes with Coolera Dramatic Society, playing leading man roles in 2010 and 2011.

In August 2011, he played Edna Turnblad in "HAIRSPRAY" with The Star Factory, and has also appeared as a dancer with Sligo Musical society since 2008.

Killian has also appeared as an extra in 2 locally filmed movies for RTE and TG4.

In September 2012, after completing his run as Riff in "WEST SIDE STORY" with The Star Factory, he will continue his training at the Leicester College of Performing Arts on their Musical Theatre course.

Killian is so proud to be a student of the Melody Academy of Dance, and he would like to thank Melody and Maisy for training him in dance, and for their constant and never ending love, support and kind words whenever he really needed them - "Thanks to them, my once seemingly impossible dream is coming true".
